You may have this bacteria, and you don’t even know it.  You may, like myself, have this bacteria and know it.  To know that you have it, you’ve had to gone to a Dr. and had your blood drawn and tested specifically for this bacteria.  There are other means of testing according to other web sites, but I only know about the testing I’ve personally gone through.

Wikipedia defines Helicobacter Pylori as a bacterium that can inhabit various areas of the stomach, particularly the antrum.  It causes a chronic low level inflamation of the stomach lining and is strongly linked to the development of duodenal and gastric ulcers and stomach cancer.  Over 80 percent of individuals infected with the bacterium are asymptomatic.

Back to Me

I was diagnosed with this ugly bacteria after visiting my Dr. with some pain I was having in the upper right side of stomach.  The pain was kinda pinchy when I stretched, or sneezed.  Nothing too awful, and as a result I lived with the pain for about a month before seeking medical advice.  I’m not one to run right down to the Dr.  I strongly believe in medical advice, but I also strongly believe that through healthy choices we can help ourselves be our healthiest self.

To Date

After the blood tests showed that this bacteria was indeed running around in my stomach, I followed my Docs advice and started down the road to treatment.  This was a 14 day course of 2 different antibiotics and prevacid 2x a day.  I swallowed 3,000 mg of antibiotics daily.  I won’t go into the details, but imagine if you will what this did to my digestive tract, my urinary tract, and my colon.  The first 5 days were pure hell.  Apparently,  H Pylori does not like it when you attempt treatment.  With 5 days left of this treatment regimen I developed a bladder/urinary tract infection.  I was given yet another antibiotic, Cipro.  Just picture your life being lived from the bathroom.

Decisions I’m Making

At this moment I’m fighting off a cold.  I know, we’re NOT in the middle of cold and flu season.  I am taking measures into my own hands.  I’m taking probiotics, multi vitamins, cranberry and extra vitamin C.  I feel myself getting stronger and actually fighting this thing off.  I’m making choices regarding daily eating (more on this later).  My digestive tract is getting stronger and I think healthier.

I’m not for one minute suggesting that I made a mistake in following my Docs advice.  I’m just letting those that read this know what I am going through.  I strongly believe I made the right choice following the prescribed treatment, and I would not hesitate in doing it again.  I also firmly believe that I can make wise choices going forward to improve the condition of my body.

let me know if you or someone you know has any experience with H pylori bacteria.
